An NRC report released last month evaluates the draft 2013 National Climate Assessment from the U.S. Global Change Research Program. The Assessment is mandated under the Global Change Research Act to inform the President, the Congress, and the nation about the current state of scientific knowledge regarding climate change effects. The NRC report provides both practical suggestions for immediate improvements to the document, and broader considerations, for example, about the scope of the research that underlies the Assessment findings. Overall, the NRC report finds that, given the current state of the science and resources available, the 2013 National Climate Assessment does a reasonable job of fulfilling its charge.
