Study in Progress: Geoengineering

Geoengineering is a broad term for deliberate, large-scale manipulations of Earth’s environment that might be used to potentially offset some of the consequences of climate change. A new study is getting underway that will evaluate some of the more well-researched potential geoengineering technologies. the potential impacts of deploying them, including possible environmental, economic, and national security concerns. This study is intended to provide a careful, clear scientific foundation that informs ethical, legal, and political discussions surrounding geoengineering. The study committee will be formed in the early spring of 2013 and committee meetings will be held throughout 2013 and into early 2014. The committee slate will be posted for comment soon.  Sign up for a free email notification to learn about committees posted for public comment and other climate news.
