Meeting 1-  The study’s first in-person was held on January 26-27, 2017. A copy of the meeting’s agenda and a short summary of the meeting’s closed sessions are available here.

Meeting 2-  The committee was briefed via webinar on March 10. The committee heard from Dr. Jens Kuhn, who spoke on the practical objectives of the Soviet biological weapons program and insights that could be applied to this committee’s charge, and Dr. Roger Brent, who spoke about his thoughts on a strategic framework for addressing biodefense vulnerabilities generated by advances in biological technology.

Meeting 3-  The committee was briefed via webinar on March 23. The committee heard from Dr. Megan Palmer, who reviewed her experience assembling and utilizing frameworks that attempt to assess and predict the risk of emergent technologies.

Meeting 4-  The study’s second in-person meeting was held on March 30-31, 2017 at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Keck Center at 500 5th Street NW, Washington, DC 20001. This meeting was primarily closed to the public, but included an open session that consisted of conversation between the committee members and the sponsor from 3-4:30pm EDT on March 30.

Meeting 5-  The study’s third in-person meeting will be held on May 25, 2017 at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s building located at 2101 Constitution Ave NW, Washington, DC 20418. 

Meeting 6- The study’s fourth in-person meeting was held on July 6, 2017 at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines’s Keck Center located at 500 5th ST. NW, Washington, DC 20001.

Meeting 7- The committee briefed the public on its interim report on August 22, 2017 from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM EST.

Meeting 8- The study’s fifth in-person meeting was held on August 23-24, 2017 at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicines’ Keck Center located at 500 5th ST. NW, Washington, DC 20001. The committee held a short open session on August 23rd from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM EDT with Dr. Chris Hassell of U.S. Department of Defense where he shared his thoughts with the committee on the interim report.
