The Presidents’ Circle is a vibrant community that advises, engages with, and supports the Presidents of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to provide the intellectual, human, and financial resources needed to sustain the work of the Academies.

Presidents’ Circle members are people who, in addition to having established outstanding careers in diverse fields, share an interest in the broad interplay of science, engineering, and medicine, and who recognize and value the significance of these disciplines to our economy, the quality of our lives, and our international position.

Members are generally attracted to “The Circle” for the following reasons:

  1. To keep abreast of the leading thinking on issues of interest to them in science, engineering, and medicine;
  2. To contribute to the identification of and thinking about issues that will help shape the future of science, engineering, and medicine (healthcare);
  3. To have a chance to collaborate with their peers in efforts to strengthen the nation’s ability to recognize and deal with these  important issues; and
  4. To have the opportunity to meet and get to know some of the finest young minds in the fields of science, engineering and medicine in the United States.

Membership is by invitation from the presidents of the three Academies.
